It all starts Tuesday, April 12, when we interview 2 authors who wrote books on World War II. Retired Army Major General Mari Eder will tell us stories of unsung female heros of the war. Jennifer Coburn will tell us about the Nazi plan to create the Aryan race. The authors live on either side of the country, but thanks to technology they'll be joinging Summer Place president Don Gingold who will be on stage at Meiley-Swallow Hall on the North Central College Campus. The event is free to the public thanks to being part of the NCC Cultural Events program, but our VIPs get preferred seating and a goodie bag courtesy of Summer Place, Sourcebooks, and Visit Naperville.
On Monday, May 23rd, we'll have our own TedTalk on the making of The Sound of Music. By TedTalk, we mean our own Ted Waltmire, long-time Summer Place member, past president, and Broadway musical authority, will be speaking! He's a professional librarian, so of course we'll hold the talk at the Nichols Library. He'll review Maria vonn Trapp's autobiography plus books on the works of Rodgers & Hammerstein. We'll do a number from the show, have quizes with prizes, and alot of fun! The event is free to the public, but our VIPs get preferred seating and a special raffle.
On Tuesday, June 14, we're holding a Hollywood red carpet event just for our VIP members. Dress up if you'd like, cast will sign autographs and we'll have a cash bar open from 6 to 7 at the Hollywood Palms, then adjourn to the Wizard of Oz room for the sing-along version of the Sound of Music. Don't have dinner before you attend, because you can buy burgers, pizzas, nachos, you name it, to enjoy while you watch the movie. (Just don't sing with your mouth full! :-) This is an exclusive perk for VIP members.
Of course, your membership includes a ticket to your choice of performances of the play The Sound of Music, from July 15 through July 31, Fridays or Saturdays at 7:30 or Sundays at 3pm.
