QUESTION: Who or what inspired you to start doing theater?
BRITTANY TEPPER: My grandparents play a huge role in my love and involvement with theatre. They own their own travel company, and often take me on day trips to see plays and musicals with them. I’ve been going with them since elementary school and have seen hundreds of amazing productions over the years.
Q: What was the musical that had you fall in love with musicals?
BT: The first musical I saw was “Hello Dolly”. It has been my favorite show ever since. I still remember “Put on Your Sunday Clothes” pretty vividly. As a second grader, everything seemed so large and grand. The colorful dresses swirling around and the music from the pit — It was like magic.
Q: What is the favorite role you've ever played?
BT: Lady Larkin in Once Upon a Mattress or Eponine in Les Miserables.
Q: What is the dream role you still want to play?
BT: Marian Paroo in the Music Man.
Q: What is the most challenging part of bringing this story to life?
BT: Understanding how the time period and the war influences decisions.
Q: If someone was going to make your life into a movie, who would you want to play you?
BT: Ginnifer Goodwin. She is so underrated. I’ve watched the entirety of HBO’s “Big Love” about four times.
Q: What do you do when you’re not doing theater?
BT: I’m a big marketing nerd. I just started as the Senior Marketing Team Leader at Naper Settlement. I also love to write and have written for a few different marketing and arts blogs.
Q: Which character from South Pacific would you most like to have dinner with and why?
BT: Bloody Mary. She is such a strong and interesting woman and would have the best stories to share!
Q: Why should people come see this production of South Pacific?
BT: This isn’t a “blaise” (as Nelly would put it) production of a classic musical. This cast is seriously hysterical and is finding new and interesting ways to interpret the beloved story of love and acceptance.
Come see Brittany and the rest of this incredibly talented cast when South Pacific opens on June 7.
