QUESTION: Who or what inspired you to start doing theater?
SAM MARTIN: My older brother’s 7th grade performance of The Music Man. I was a fourth grader, and my mom had volunteered to do photography for the production, so I would go with her after school to the rehearsals. I loved the environment and the performance so much that when I made it to 7th grade I decided to try it myself.

Q: What was the musical that had you fall in love with musicals?
SM: The Music Man. That was the show my brother was doing in 7th grade. I loved the lyricism and the exciting music.

Q: What is the favorite role you've ever played?
SM: The Baker in Into The Woods!

Q: What is the dream role you still want to play?
SM: JD in Heathers for sure. Also Sweeney Todd.

Q: Do you have any performance superstitions?
SM: I don’t have any superstitions but I’m always nervous that my fly will be unzipped when I go onstage.

Q: If someone was going to make your life into a movie, who would you want to play you?
SM: Benedict Cumberbatch except blond. Because it would be funny.

Q: What do you do when you’re not doing theater?
SM: I make music, play video games, and play DnD! Look me up on Spotify if you’re interested :)

Q: Which character from South Pacific would you most like to have dinner with and why?
SM: Emile. He just seems like a pleasant and interesting guy.

Q: Why should people come see this production of South Pacific?
SM: Because it’s a lovely cast of very enthusiastic people that are going to bring a lot of life and energy into this story! Everyone involved in the production has a heart of gold and a lot of passion for the show.

Come see Sam and the rest of this incredibly talented cast when South Pacific opens on June 7.
