About the Director

DONALD T. SHANOWER is the managing director of The Summer Place, and has served in this capacity since he conceived the idea of community theatre in Naperville eleven years ago. He is chairman of the Speech Communications Department and Director of the Theatre Guild at North Central College. His diversified background includes summer stock, performing on a summer showboat, and directing over 100 college and community productions. He has directed one dramatic and one musical production every year since the theatre’s inception in 1967.

About the Cast

JERRY HANDLON, Aurora, returns for his fourth season with The Summer Place, having previously appeared in The Little Foxes, Lo and Behold, and Harvey. Other roles to his credit include Oscar in The Odd Couple, Donald in Boys in the Band, and roles in The Mousetrap and The Tender Trap.

SAMANTHA WOERZ, Winfield, is a familiar face from community theatre productions with The Summer Place and with Albright Theatre, where she appeared in Lily, The Felon’s Daughter, The Importance of Being Earnest, A Christmas Carol, and Charley’s Aunt.

JAMES R. KELLER, Naperville, will be remembered for roles in A Shot in the Dark and Showboat at The Summer Place. He has also been seen regularly in productions at IBC and Albright Theatre.

MARY ANNE BRATEK, Naperville, has an impressive background that includes roles in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Medea, The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch, and Under Milkwood.

CRAIG MAHLSTEDT, Naperville, a newcomer to the Summer Place stage, is a theatre major from Illinois Wesleyan. He specialized in character roles while appearing there and in summer stock.

LISE HINRICHS, Westmont, a student at North Central College, has had roles in East Lynne, Merry Wives of Windsor, and The Braggart Soldier.

JAN MAHLSTEDT, Naperville, has worked in summer stock and dinner theatre since graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University as a drama major.

ROBERT KLIPP, Winfield, returns to The Summer Place as the dastardly villain, after portraying Ben in The Little Foxes last summer, and Milo in Lo and Behold in 1975. He has also had many leading roles at Theatre-By-The-Lake.

MARILYN ROCKSTROH, Aurora, marks this as her third season with The Summer Place, after roles in Fashion in 1976, and Lo and Behold the previous year. She recently played Nancy in the Stage Company’s production of Play It Again Sam.

MARY WALSH, Woodridge, has served as a summer stock apprentice at Little Theatre on the Square in Sullivan, Illinois. She has also been active in theatrical productions at Notre Dame/St. Mary’s Theatre and Arizona State University.
