Meet Blythe Schwaller
My Three Angels Spotlight
Blythe Schwaller is a graduate from Millikin University with a BA in Theatre. She was most recently seen as Sophie in Mamma Mia (Stage Coach Players), Phoebe in As You Like It (Bard in the Burbs),and Flounder in The Little Mermaid (Stage Coach Players). She is honored to be a part of the production, and is overwhelmed with the warm welcome and support from her cast and crew! She would also like to thank her family and friends for their unwavering love and endless encouragement.
We asked Blythe a few questions about her background and interest in this show.
Q: Who or what inspired you to start doing theater?
A: Growing up, I always loved playing dress up, or reenacting my favorite movies from memory with my siblings. I would force my mom to take hours of footage with the camcorder, even though it was absolutely awful. When I saw my first live action musical on VHS (Annie with Carol Burnett) I knew that's what I wanted to do. Then, I started acting, and the rest is history!
Q: What was the musical that had you fall in love with musicals?
A: Next to Normal! It's such a deep, dark show that absolutely broke my heart. The music is amazing, and the story captivates you the entire time.
Q: What is the favorite role you've ever played?
A: Ooh, this is a tough one! I think I'd have to say Phoebe in As You Like It. I had been dreaming about performing a Shakespeare show for years, and I was finally given the opportunity a few months ago! It really pushed me as an actor, and I learned a lot from everyone involved in the production. Phoebe was also such a fun character. She's definitely going to stick with me for a while.
Q: What is the dream role you still want to play?
A: Natalie in Next to Normal. Or Wednesday in The Addams Family.
Q: Most challenging part of bringing this story to life?
A: The most challenging thing for me is constantly switching between overwhelmingly happy to monotonously depressed. It takes a lot of energy to make that change visible to the audience - and to the other characters as well.
Q: Do you have any performance superstitions?
A: Not that I know of. I try not to think about it too much or I'll psych myself out!
Q: If someone was going to make your life into a movie, who would you want to play you?
A: This is a ridiculous answer, but Meryl Streep. She's phenomenal.
Q: What do you do when you’re not doing theater?
A: I'm usually preparing for more auditions!
Q: Which character from M3A would most like to have dinner with and why?
A: I'd love to have dinner with Alfred! He seems to truly care about Marie Louise, and I feel like he'd be an absolute gentleman (even though he'd probably be a little intimidating).
Q: Why should people come see this production of M3A?
A: This show is so funny! It has a wonderful story, the characters are lovable, and it's a show that everyone can enjoy. It's definitely something you won't want to miss!
