Profiles

Patrick Bell (Peter Van Daan) is a high school sophomore having appeared in shows such as Oliver, The Arabian Nights, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and is presently rehearsing for The Crucible at NCHS. This is Patrick’s first Summer Place production.

Todd Lambert (Mr. Dussel) has performed as a student in Indiana University Theater and with concert & performance choirs. As a soldier, he emceed USO shows at Fort Knox. He had leading roles in Fort Wayne community theater and operettas where he also began a first career in broadcasting. Later, Lambert earned graduate degrees at Indiana and Northwestern and devoted over 30 years to corporate and academic careers. He returns to theater in his first Summer Place role.

Terry Locke (Mr. Kraler) is delighted to be working in his first Summer Place production. He has played major roles in Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors, The Odd Couple, Amadeus, Rumors and the Greek comedy The Birds. Other credits include Big River and Carousel as well as many children’s productions.

Dana Mantella (Anne Frank) is an 8th grade student at Kennedy Junior High School. She enjoys acting, singing, dancing, and soccer. Dana is thrilled to have the privilege of working with such a talented cast. Thanks Mom, Dad, Cara and Brock!

Candice Michel (Mrs. Frank) discovered acting at an early age. By the age of twelve, she had starred in the play Cheaper by the Dozen and recorded a poem for Children’s Hospital that was part of a yearly radio Christmas appeal. To date, she has performed in over a dozen theatrical events in Pittsburgh, Hawaii, San Diego, Los Angeles, and now Chicago. Her dream is to perform with her father and daughter, both actors in their own right.

Katherine J. Parker (Miep) is excited to be performing at The Summer Place. She has also been seen in The Hobbit, Playing for Time, The Good Doctor, and Seasonings Greetings.

Sharon Place (Mrs. Van Daan) is a member of the Board of Directors of The Summer Place. She has appeared on The Summer Place stage in Dark at the Top of the Stairs, Dracula, Brigadoon, Odd Couple and King and I. She has also performed at Candlelight Dinner Theatre, Drury Lane South and Pheasant Run Theatre, where she most recently played the role of Aunt Eller in Oklahoma.

Roger Place (Mr. Frank) is a member of the Board of Directors, has appeared in 10 plays, and directed 7 plays and 3 musicals, at The Summer Place. His favorite productions have been those where he has worked with his wife, Sharon, and their daughters, Jennifer and Susan. Roger and Jennifer will be directing Man of La Mancha which will open the 1996 summer season in June.

Meg Schutzenhofer (Margot) is a junior at NCHS where she is a member of Theatre Central. She will next be seen playing Abigail Williams in Theatre Central’s The Crucible, March 7,8,& 9 in the NCHS Auditorium. Thanks to my friends (KYSPKJD) & family (for all those rides.)

Gerald Szymski (Mr. Van Daan) is a shop keeper from Westmont. An ex-high school drama coach, Gerry was Delver in All My Sons the first season of Summer Place. His favorite roles include Willy Larman in Death of a Salesman, Bob in Mary, Mary, and Howard Bevair in Picnic in 4 different productions.

Craig Mahlstedt (Director) lives in Naperville with his wife Jan and son Curt. He received a B.F.A. and a wonderful wife from his attendance at Ill Wesleyan University. He has been a Summer Place Board Member since the mid-seventies. Some favorite productions include Inherit the Wind, The Boys Next Door, and Other People’s Money.

Jean Morris (Assistant Director) serves as House Manager for Summer Place’s summer season. She has appeared in Summer Place’s Inherit the Wind, Brighton Beach Memoirs and Angels Fall. Jean is associate director of external relations/development for North Central College.
